Utterly Ridiculous

I can understand a conservative encyclopedia's reluctance to characterize early American settlers as raging alcoholics, but the qualifier "as much of the water was often tainted or unpotable" is laughable. It's a familiar explanation for anyone who's discussed Jesus' drinking of wine in Sunday school, but it simply doesn't apply here. Applejack is distilled liquor. It's 60 to 80 proof depending on how you strengthen it, and using it in place of water would be, to understate, problematic. "Gee, I sure am parched. Do we have any water? no? fine, then I'll just have a thirst-quenching swig of Jack Daniels! So refreshing!"

Just omit that part if the idea of iconic American settlers getting trashed is irksome. --Mechrobioticon 18:17, 31 March 2007 (EDT)

More evidence of bias in public schools

When I was in school, my teachers never mentioned anything about Johnny Appleseed other than how he planted a lot of apple trees. Not one word about his Christian nature. One teacher even suggested that he never really existed, that he was just an urban legend. It is always disheartening to find teachers that try to present their own opinions as fact, and attempt to impress them upon children. --JacobM 14:58, 6 February 2008 (EST)
