I think we should describe the parallels between Maud's life and the fictional life of her most famous character, Anne Shirley.

Both were orphaned as toddlers. Both were then raised by an elderly man and woman (grandparents vs. brother & sister). Both compensated for loneliness by delving deeply into literature and poetry. Both invented imaginary playmates (Anne's bookcase friend). Both were superb students, "completing the two year teacher's course in just one year." --Ed Poor Talk 13:58, 15 July 2008 (EDT)
