The proper solution in any case involving an honor code is for the witness to tell his 'buddies' to turn themselves in. If they refuse, remind them that the choice is between their voluntary confession and the expulsion of the witness.

On what ethical grounds might they justify a demand for the witness to remain quiet? Even getting kicked out of one prep school (the maximum punishment for a confessed stunt) would hardly derail their careers. They'd simply transfer to Andover or Exeter.

The movie is based on a false premise (or false dilemma). It's not between (A) being loyal to one's friends and (B) taking a bribe.

A much better movie about an honor code violation is School Ties (1992) with Brendan Fraser, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. --Ed Poor ^Talk 13:30, 20 February 2010 (EST)
