I would suggest that these are essential characteristics of Democracy. I wonder how conservatives and liberals feel about groups of people spontaneously working together? Volunteering freely, as opposed to acting only under central direction.

Conservatives seek a society where like-minded people may form relationships at will, especially in commerce (see free market economy). Liberals and socialists favor the forced redistribution of wealth and centrally planned economies. --Ed Poor Talk 12:46, 25 November 2008 (EST)
