What is the relationship between violent crime and right to carry laws? --Ed Poor Talk 09:57, 8 December 2008 (EST)

How many people would have been murdered by Islamist terrorists in Mumbai had ordinary Indians been permitted to bear arms? Bugler 10:05, 8 December 2008 (EST)
I'll try to find a source if noone else does first, but states with shall issue or easy to obtain concealed carry laws (and high gun ownership) have lower violent crime, especially rape. Sulli 10:13, 8 December 2008 (EST)

My question should be refined: what happens in a state (or country) after it adopts a "shall issue" policy on concealed handguns? We need to sort out conditions beforehand. The big question, of course, is whether we can reduce violent crime in the big metropolitan areas of the US by making it easier for law-abiding citizens to have and use guns. Note: this is controversial, with John Lott saying that more guns means less crime and "gun control" advocates saying it will lead to more crime and/or more accidents. --Ed Poor Talk 10:18, 8 December 2008 (EST)
