The Christmas Shoes is a popular song released in 2000 by NewSong. It is based on an Internet tale discovered by a St. Louis DJ.

The narrator is shopping on Christmas Eve, not really in the mood, when ahead of him is a young unkempt boy. The boy wants to buy a pair of shoes for his terminally ill mother, so she can look good when Jesus comes to take her home, but lacks the money to do so. The narrator gives him the remaining money needed, and is reminded of the true spirit of Christmas.

Notwithstanding that the song routinely makes the lists of "worst Christmas songs", it actually hit #1 on the Adult Contemporary Chart during the summer of 2000 (a time when Christmas songs usually don't even air), and has been made into a novel and a Hallmark Christmas film.
