The UAW strike 2023 is an unprecedented strike against all of the Big Three automakers beginning on September 15, 2023.

While withholding a political endorsement of Biden's reelection, the UAW leadership has made extreme demands for increased wages, benefits, and even a four-day work week. Socialistic rhetoric such as criticizing billionaires is part of this strike.

Rival Tesla does not have unionized workers.

Union demands

The union demands are reported as follows:

The UAW demands have been focused on a 40% proposed pay increase, the re-establishment of pensions, a 32-hour week with 40 hours of pay, a reversal of past concessions made by the union such as cost-of-living adjustments, and erasing a tiered-pay system.[1]

Automakers counteroffers

On September 20, Stellantis made the first counteroffer among the Big Three with terms that were not fully disclosed to the public.[2]

Initial stage

The initial strike on September 15 was a "three-location work stoppage," which "is just a fraction of the size of a possible full-scale walkout — which would involve nearly 150,000 union members across several other states."[3]
