Unseen (book)
Unseen: Angels, Satan, Heaven, Hell and Winning the Battle for Eternity is a book by Jack Graham, Senior Pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church. It was originally published in 2013 by Bethany House Publishers.
The central theme of the book is the concept of spiritual warfare, a topic that Dr. Graham admitted was not taught while growing up in his denomination (the Southern Baptist Convention) and was relegated to the "snake handlers down the street". But two major events led him to realize that the concept is real: the emergence of several leaders in the SBC that began to teach on the subject, and the brutal 1970 murder of his father (which he describes in the beginning of the opening chapter).
Later in the book, in his discussion on prayer, he recounts what he considers his biggest personal mistake in the ministry: his decision in 2009 to not tell the Prestonwood congregation that he was being treated for prostate cancer and his attempt to return to the pulpit far too soon, a decision which nearly ended his ministerial career. He admitted that he had kept a group of "pray-ers" -- the congregation -- from praying for him during that time. (In a subsequent book, Reignite, he goes into more detail about his bout with prostate cancer.)
