In the Christian Bible, when one compares the original forms with English translation, occasionally mistranslations occur. This article will not speculate on how such changes should be considered, only to point them out.

Examples

• Deuteronomy 32:18: Common Translation: "Of the Rock that begat you you are unmindful, and have forgotten God that formed you." More Literal Translation: "Of the Rock that begat you you are unmindful, and have forgotten God that gave you birth." (From the Hebrew word "chuwl", meaning "to twist" and coming to mean a number of things such as to dance or to give birth.) Possibly translated thus so as not to imply the idea of a feminine god.
• Exodus 22:18: Common Translation: "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live." More Literal Translation: "Thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live." (From the Hebrew word "chasaph", meaning poisoner". Possible translated thus due to King James' known fear of pagan witches.
