Welding is the process of permanently joining two piece of material of similar composition together, usually metal. It most often refers to any of the following processes: MIG (metal inert gas), TIG (Tungsten inert gas), electrical arc, gas (most often oxyacetylene), and resistance (spot). Welding may also refer to permanently fixing plastic materials together.
