The fact that McCarthy volunteered for the Marines just to get recognition isnt unsubstantial. One of his friends joined the Army, and hinted to McCarthy the recognition that would come with being a war vet. He promptly did. And the way he exxagerated his accomplishments and paraded his "experience" in his early campaigns further supports that point. - Don't tell me, put it in the article (with citation, and quotes). Preface it with "Author blah-blah has claimed that blah-blah". Otherwise it's POV and inappropriate. Levine 19:11, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
