Vitellius was Roman Emperor in 69 A.D., the Year of the four Emperors after defeating Otho and deposing him after a 3-month reign on April 19, the third man to be emperor that year. His reign was itself short lived as Vespasian was proclaimed emperor by his troops on July 1. His followers defeated the forces of Vitellius in the second battle of Bedriacum. The fighting moved to Rome with street to street battles and a fire that engulfed the city. Vitellius was slain on December 20.
