White Pages
White Pages is the traditional notion of residential telephone directory listings indexed by family name. Many phone companies provide phone directories for free. For an additional monthly charge, a phone user could opt for an unlisted number that did not appear in the white pages. Historically, most of these books were printed by the RR Donnelley company. Most phone directories printed residential listings on white colored paper and commercial listing on yellow colored paper.
One website appropriated the "whitepages.com" name, but it has no legal relationship with the phone directories produced by the telephone companies. Modern technology has massively integrated this information and provides a surprisingly large amount of information for free. For instance, sitting judges, who usually have their first name, middle initial and last name on their nameplate while sitting on the bench can often be found by simply specifying the State they live in. The same applies to prosecutors, policemen and most politicians. "Premium results" such as mobile phone numbers and criminal records are available for a fee.
