Yellow ribbon (Israel related)
A display of solidarity with victims, hostages.
In 2010, following the efforts to raise awareness of the kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit, thousands of yellow ribbons hung by citizens on their cars were distributed throughout Israel to show solidarity with the soldier's family and to call for his release. In anticipation of Gilad Shalit's return, the children of the settlement of Mitzpe Hila decorated the fences and trees in the settlement with yellow ribbons.[1]
When IDF prisoners Yosef Groff, Nissim Shalem and Hazi Shai were returned from captivity as part of the Jibril deal, Yosef Groff's mother tied hundreds of yellow ribbons on the street where they live, to promote his presence.[2]
During the Oct 7 War (Swords of Iron), many citizens wear a yellow ribbon on their clothes or vehicles as a sign of identification and solidarity with the many abductees captured in the Hamas surprise attack on October 7, 2023. Yellow ribbons were hung on the streets of many cities in Israel and on trees, electricity poles, fences and cars. Many people wear a lapel pin in the form of a yellow ribbon, known as the "freedom decoration", on their clothes.
It began fter the commencement of the Israel-Hamas War in October 2023, families of hostages taken into Gaza launched a project of handing out yellow ribbons on the streets of Israel. Later on, sympathizers outside of Israel adopted the symbol in order to call for the hostages return.[3]
The Hostages and Missing Families Forum introduced the yellow ribbon in 2024 as a symbol to call for the return of hostages currently held by Hamas, occasionally appearing alongside the slogan "Bring Them Home Now".[4] By later in 2024, the yellow ribbon had gained recognition as a symbol calling for the hostages' release.

- Gal Gadot claimed Golden Globes banned her from Wlwearing hostage pin.[13] But Golden Globes clarified: 'False—there was no prohibition on wearing any type of pin.[14]
