A yurt is a round tent originally used by the nomadic peoples of Mongolia and neighboring regions. In the time of the Mongol Empire, yurts served to house the Mongol horde of Genghis Khan and his successors as they traveled great distances across Central Asia. As a result, yurts are now used in rural areas across large parts of Siberia and former Soviet republics such as Uzbekistan.
