Christian socialism

Christian socialism was a movement beginning in the late 1800s by some church groups to preach the "social gospel", which urged more government taxing and spending for the benefit of the lower economic classes. This movement attempted to ameliorate poverty by redistributing wealth rather than increasing prosperity.
