The Overton window is a concept in political theory which takes in the possibilities for change that are realistic in the current environment.[1]
There are 5 steps:
- From Unthinkable to Radical.
- From Radical to Acceptable.
- From Acceptable to Sensible.
- From Sensible to Popular.
- From Popular to Policy.
The concept of the 'Overton Window' is a theory created by Joseph Overton from the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.[2]
The Overton Window has been used with great success by many on the left.[3]
