The Tasman Sea is the part of the Pacific Ocean bounded to the north by the Coral Sea, to the east by New Zealand, to the south by the Southern Ocean and to the west by mainland Australia and the Australian island state of Tasmania.

It is named after the Dutch navigator Abel Tasman who crossed it from Tasmania to New Zealand in 1632.
