Alexander Dubcek

Alexander Dubček (1921–1992) attempted to reform the Communist government in Czechoslovakia in 1968, when he briefly served as its prime minister. Dubcek was himself a socialist, but the Soviet Union sent troops to stop his reforms.

Later, after the overthrow of communism in Czechoslovakia two decades later, Dubcek became speaker of the federal Czechoslovak parliament.
