The Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA) is a U.S. organization which seeks to improve news reporting on the middle east, and especially Israel. They monitor, archive, and report on news reports[1] regarding this region. The also advocate and lobbies for the legitimacy of Israel.[2]

CAMERA also offers a variety of publications,[2] and works to engage and inform college students.[3][4]

History

CAMERA was founded in Washington, DC in 1982 by Winifred Meiselman. About seven years later, another chapter was started in Boston, and a few more formed as well. In 1991, however, Ms. Meiselman was forced to retire because of health problems, and leadership of CAMERA was transferred to Ms. Levin. At this time the Boston chapter became to nation's official location. It was soon decided to also make it the nation's only location.[5]

Notes

  • The CAMERA chapter in San Francisco chapter (led by Gerardo Joffe), decided to reincorporate when its chapter was terminated. They became the organization Facts and Logic about the Middle East (FLAME).
