According to Rod Wheeler:

: Aaron was adamantly opposed to Rod investigating the leaks or Seth's employment with the DNC.  Aaron refused to give Seth's computer to Rod for examination.  Rod also could not get access to any cell phone of Seth's, nor the official phone log for the murder night.  Rod was featured in a local DC Fox5 story by reporter Zimmerman and on Sean Hannity's program also.  As aired, Rod initially indicated that he had an FBI or federal source for the examination of Seth's laptop indicating a connection between Seth Rich and Wikileaks.  However, soon after, Rod received a cease and desist order from a lawyer of the family against his activity.  And Rod apparently recanted what he had said.  By early August, 2017, Rod had filed a lawsuit vs Fox News for defamation.  Rod and his lawyer have spread the accusation that President Trump knew about the Fox5 story before it was published and encouraged Fox to publish it.  Rod's accusation is backed by a message from Butkowski, which message indicates White House approval of the story.  However, Butkowski claimed that he was joking.  The White House denied prior knowledge of the Fox5 story.

:The lead homicide detective on the Seth Rich murder case said privately that the Metropolitan Police Department gave him “strict, strict rules” not to talk about the case “because of what this case is.” He said the higher-ups in the department were very aware of the case and begged a private investigator not to “throw me under the bus” because he feared he would get “re-assigned” somewhere to “moving property around” if he talked about the case.
