Eric Patrick Clapton, CBE, (b. March 30, 1945) is an English blues/rock and roll guitarist and vocalist. During his long career he has been a member of the Yardbirds, Cream,[1] Derek and the Dominos, Blind Faith, the Bluesbreakers, as well as a solo artist. Among Clapton's best known recordings are "Layla", "I Shot the Sheriff", "Cocaine", and "Lay Down Sally". Rolling Stone magazine listed Clapton as #4 in their list of the 100 greatest guitarists. Clapton overcame heroin addiction in the mid 1970s, and alcoholism in the early 1980s. He continues to perform and record; his most recent album was recorded in 2010. Clapton is a Christian as well as a supporter of abstinence, supporter of fox hunting and opposed to illegal immigration.
