Gary Soto (born 1952) is from Fresno, California, and is the author of ten poetry collections for adults, most notably New and Selected Poems, a 1995 finalist for both the Los Angeles Times Book Award and the National Book Award. Soto's other writing includes memoirs and poetry and fiction for children and teenagers.
Soto was also a labor activist with the United Farm Workers of America.
From 1977 to 1993, Soto taught Chicano studies and English at the University of California, Berkeley.[1]
