In the United States, Labor Day is a legal holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. '[1]
Labor Day is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.[2] Ironically, it is a busy season for laborers in the retail industry, as Labor Day sales are frequent.
This holiday is traditionally considered the "unofficial" end of the summer holiday season, due to its placement late in the actual summer season and near the beginning of the school year. However, some school systems generally have Labor Day being a day off instead of the final day of Summer Vacation (the latter being placed around Mid-August).
