The kilt is part of the traditional clothing of Scotland. It consists of heavy fabric wrapped around the waist of the wearer down to knee length and ordinarily bears a tartan pattern of the wearer's clan.
In modern times the kilt is often worn with underwear, but traditionally it was not.
Green kilts are worn in Ireland; items of male apparel in other parts of the world have also been described as kilts.
