Deification, or Apotheosis, is the process of turning regular people or objects into a god, or equal to God. It is not wise since people are fallible and deification amounts to creating and having false idols. Idolizing and adoring someone as a focus of intense admiration is a form of deification. Contrast Canonization and Intercession.
