The Big 12 Conference (often written as Big XII) is an NCAA Division I conference, which despite its name consists of only ten member institutions:[1] eight public universities and two private universities (Baylor and Texas Christian) in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, and West Virginia.
The most recent Big 12 team to win a national football championship was the University of Texas in 2006. Some of the more prestigious football schools in the conference are Texas and Oklahoma. The most recent national men's basketball championship among Big 12 teams was won by the University of Kansas in 2008.
