Troy David Romero (born 1960) is the Republican state representative for District 37 in Jefferson Davis Parish in southwestern Louisiana. He won the post in the runoff election held on November 16, 2019, having polled 7,358 votes (56 percent) to 5,782 (44 percent) for another Republican, Shalon Latour. He succeeded the term-limited Republican Representative John E. Guinn on January 13, 2020.[1]
Romero is a conservative businessman who is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Welsh, a small town in Jefferson Davis Parish, where he was reared. He is also a supporter of the Methodist Children's Home in Ruston. He attended Welsh High School and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He is married to the former Emily Williamson and has four daughters, three stepsons, and six grandchildren.[2]
Romero has prior experience in farming and the restaurant business. Since 2009, he has owned Sports Turf Specialists LLC, which constructs and maintains sports facilities throughout Louisiana. He considers small business and job creation to be "the backbone" of the Louisiana economy."[2]
Like his House predecessor, Johnny Guin, Romero formerly served as a Democrat on the Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury.[2] With 48 percent of the vote, Romero was unseated in his race for police juror by another Democrat in the nonpartisan blanket primary held on October 23, 1999.[3]
