The Sigynnae were according to Herodotus, a ethnic group living predominantly north of the river Ister, but could be found as far as the Eneti on the Adriatic (regions of modern Venice).

Herodotus claimed that the Sigynnae said of themselves that there were colonists from Media, noting that they did wear "Median dress". Yet throughout Greece their name was interchangeable with "huckster" or "small trader"; while on Cyprus their name was used for "spears".[1]
