The Pieta

Michelangelo (1475-1564) was one of the greatest painters and sculpters of the Renaissance and a devout Catholic. His full name was Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni.

He sculpted the Pieta (See bottom) and, his most famous work, a statue of David holding a sling. He also painted at the Sistine Chapel "The Last Judgement" and the "The Creation" (The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel (1509-1512), and many other works of art.
