According to Mark Milley, Pompeo was among the Trump staffers who was aware of his January 8, 2021 phone call to Chinese general Li Zuocheng (in which Milley stated that he would inform the CCP in the event of a pre-emptive attack by the United States). If this statement is true, then Pompeo essentially was aware of a seditious, borderline treasonous act by a high-ranking general, and did nothing to inform President Trump about that act.

In September 2021, Trump-Russia hoaxer Michael Isikoff of Yahoo News claimed that Pompeo was involved in a plot to assassinate Julian Assange. Isikoff wrote the article for Yahoo News that James Comey and Peter Strzok used to secure the fraudulent Carter Page FISA warrant. Yahoo News has not retracted the fake news and Isikoff is still employed. Nonetheless, Isikoff's report regarding Pompeo and Assange has been deemed to be credible by WikiLeaks, as well as Glenn Greenwald and Edward Snowden.
