Mullingar is a vibrant midlands town in County Meath in the [[Republic of Ireland]].    Situated to the west of [[Dublin]], it is a key city on the East-West route across the Midlands of Ireland.  It is well-known in Ireland as a centre of religious learning, which dates back to the 1976 when [[Father Dunlop]], a Franciscan novice from [[Sutton]], a poor suburb of Dublin, witnessed a vision of [[Jesus Christ]] in some clouds that loomed over the town.  (The clouds had accidentally been released from a local biochemical plant.  Left-wing activists subsequently caused the plant to be shut down by complaining that the release was toxic, which was never fully proved.  As a result, many jobs were lost, and the local economy suffered).
