Dugin is not a Putin advisor, has never met Putin, nor has Putin ever quoted him in a speech, nor did Dugin have a personal security detail as Russian officials have to guard against assassination. He is an ordinary citizen and college professor.

Dugin as an individual has been distanced from by Russian officials since late 2014, when he was fired from his position at Moscow State University for making statements advocating the ethnic cleansing of Ukrainians. His ideological writings (such as The Fourth Political Theory) has also been largely rejected by Russian officials, at least at the upper level. However, his geopolitical writings (such as Foundations of Geopolitics) are still considered influential among Russian officials, particularly those serving in a military capacity.
That being said, the West has indeed exaggerated the degree of Dugin’s influence on Russian politics. He’s not Putin’s “Rasputin,” nor do his personal beliefs on domestic politics automatically make Putin a Nazbol. And on a related note, Dugin is not a Nazi or even a Fascist. He’s a Nazbol, which is a distinct ideology that both Western and Russian media seem to pretend doesn’t exist.--Geopolitician (talk) 12:41, August 22, 2022 (EDT)
