Sportswashing is a pejorative term used mostly by liberals to criticize a government that spends lavishly on sports stars supposedly to gain undeserved credibility in public opinion. The term is used most often against Saudi Arabia as it paid enormous sums for talent in golf (LIV tour) and then in soccer (Cristiano Ronaldo).[1]
A double standard is in the Leftists' use of this term, because they simultaneously demand for their own political reasons an unfair boycott by the PGA Tour of Trump-owned golf courses.
In addition, the Saudi Arabian case is part of a routine by hypocritical left to shine a light more on the oppressive Saudi regime than on the oppressive Iranian.
