A cashless society refers to states and nations which have removed the ability of the people to independently conduct transactions without some larger entity such as a bank, credit card company, government, or other knowing about it.

India has made moves toward a cashless society, abolishing larger bills.[1] South Korea plans to abolish all coins by 2020.[2]

Seventh-day Adventists speculate that the move towards a cashless society constitutes creeping towards the formation of the image of the beast, citing Revelation 13:17 and pointing out the ability for centralized governments to instantly freeze bank accounts of individuals who do not comply with the mark of the beast. Adventists also note the exacerbation the coronavirus pandemic had in propelling the enactment of a cashless society, which has been written in the media.[3]
