:The term "gay" likewise has an interesting history. It begins with Friedrich Nietzsche's 19th century book, The Gay Science. Many decades later Hollywood produced a film entitled The Gay Divorcee. By the 1960s gays "came out of the closet" and admitted that the word "gay" was a codeword dropped in casual conversation for nearly a hundred years to feel out a person if they were susceptible to homosexual advances (facilitated by the "intellectual", academic, and popular culture references to the book or film). :What is remarkable about the Lesbian-Gay Alliance ({later the LGBT alliance} is, it normalized people with underlying psychological problems. Lesbians who refused to identify as "gay", suffer from the same irrational underlying fear and psychological maladies that they accuse homophobes of. Only in the case of the larger hetero community, what was once a psychiatric disorder was decriminalized, whereas many in the LGBT movement and their "straight" allies seek to criminalize what is by definition a psychological disorder.
