:::::Even Truman, the great protector of Alger Hiss and other spies, wasn't pro-communist enough, according to Duran. Hiss engineered the pre-war oil embargo on Japan as a favor to Stalin. Truman had to adjust course after anti-Communist Republicans was the 1946 midterms. But his natural instinct was always to treat the communists as potential allies.
