Generative AI produces text which I considers to be realistic, based on data it is provided. Given a large enough dataset, it accomplishes this goal pretty well. In that procedure, it pulls facts from relevant sources, so the material it produces tends to be somewhat accurate. Or at least, sometimes it is accurate. It is not uncommon for the system to invent "facts," and even provide fake references for these invented facts. This issue is sometimes called "hallucinating." This can result in its answers being blatantly incorrect, at times.<ref>https://www.ibm.com/topics/ai-hallucinations</ref><ref>https://www.telusinternational.com/insights/ai-data/article/generative-ai-hallucinations</ref>
