The American way, or "American Way" (with a capital "W"), is a style and approach that is uniquely American. It appears in an often-used expression as "truth, justice, and the American way."
Examples of the American way include:
- freedom of speech and religion
- gun ownership and defense of that right
- presidential elections every four years
- a sports culture
- less respect for teachers and universities than in most countries
- a high level of religious activity and participation
- far greater wealth than in the rest of the world
- a devotion to traditional marriage and family life
The classic book by Alexis de Toqueville, Democracy in America, discusses and highlights examples of the American way from nearly two centuries ago.
