A word's value in numeric terms is the sum of the numeric value of each of its letters, where:
- a = 1
- b = 2
- c = 3
...
- y = 25
- z = 26
This can be helpful for encouraging an early reader who likes math to read more, and to increase his vocabulary.
Some fun examples are:
- pouring has a word value of exactly 100.
- impatiently has a high word value of 144 - a perfect square of 12
