Montgomeryshire (Welsh: Sir Faldwin) is a county in eastern Wales. To the north lie the counties Merionethshire and Denbighshire, to the east is the English county Shropshire. It is bound to the south by Radnorshire, and to the south-west by Cardiganshire. The county is landlocked, with its westernmost extreme stopping just short of the Dyfi estuary. The county town is Montgomery. The largest settlement in the county is Newtown (Welsh: Y Drenewydd).

The county is sparsely populated and mainly mountainous. According to Wikishire, the county has a population of just under 62,000.[1]
