Self-sabotage "is when people make choices that block their success or prevent them from accomplishing their goals. It can happen consciously or unconsciously. Self-sabotaging behaviors can affect our personal and professional success, as well as our mental health."[1]
Causes of self-sabotage
Self-sabotaging behaviour can be a result of poor self-esteem, other negative self-perceptions, fear of failure (avoiding failure in an unhealthy way) or success, fear of attachment as far as relationships, fear of the unknown (See: Courage and Risk and Risk management and Adventure) or other factors. In some cases, self-sabotage may be a unhealthy coping mechanism for dealing with stress or difficult emotions (imposter syndrome)[2][3][4]
