Israeli forces captured Dr. Marwan al-Hams, a physician from Rafah's Youssef al-Najjar Hospital who served in Hamas' military wing as a brigade doctor and managed field hospitals for the Hamas-run health ministry during the war. He was involved in handling the body of Israeli soldier Lt. Hadar Goldin, killed and taken in 2014. The capture occurred in July during a special forces operation in southern Gaza's al-Mawasi area. A video shows he was lured there under the pretense of being filmed for a documentary called "Hero of Gaza."
