Ahhmmmm...SSchultz....this is not Wikipedia. Just where exactly did you get this information:

In the 1947, members of the Writer's Guild were accused by Joseph McCarthy of being communist sympathizers.

This is no joke. This is not a laughing matter. This is an egregious offense, and I suggest you take this matter very seriously. Rob Smith 01:07, 8 November 2007 (EST)

Honest mistake, Rob. I confused HUAC with McCarthy's Senatorial committee. Thank you for correcting my error. But the issue still stands, the Writer's Guild has historic ties to communist activity, which explains why they're striking now. SSchultz 19:49, 8 November 2007 (EST)
I just ran a search on all 5 volumes of the Report of the Subversive Activities Control Board {Search) and didn't find any matches under that name; it is not on the Attorney General's List of 1948, either. So any information will need a further vetting. Did the organization ever exist under other names? What about its leadership and members? Where any prominent members also CPUSA members? Questions of this nature. Thank you. Rob Smith 20:53, 8 November 2007 (EST)
Unfortunately, I don't have a user name or password to search the directory, but the WGA is the successor organization to the Screen Writer's Guild which counted members of the Hollywood Ten including Samuel Ornitz, John Howard Lawson, Dalton Trumbo, and Lester Cole amongst it's founding members. PS - I didn't intend to say that all members of the guild were accused of being communists, but some clearly were. SSchultz 23:19, 8 November 2007 (EST)
Ok, I searched all 5 volumes using those search terms with no results. This probably means these individuals were not associated with any other front organizations, and the files are elsewhere, most likely HUAC and possibly whatever CPUSA or Soviet files may be availalbe. I don't think any files would be in the SISS or PSI. Many of the officail HUAC files remain under seal, however, so from that all that may be available are published accounts from persons who attended the hearings. Writer's/ Writers

The WGA website refers to the union as the "Writers" and not the "Writer's" Guild - can someone change the article's title, please?Dewey 23:32, 8 November 2007 (EST)

I'll run a search again. Rob Smith 23:36, 8 November 2007 (EST)
No luck. I only got one hit on the word "Guild," from "Newspaper Guild," which I saved & uploaded--may have a use for this elsewhere. [1] Rob Smith 23:43, 8 November 2007 (EST)
