People for the American Way is a left-wing advocacy group[1][2] created by Norman Lear, the wealthy producer of "All in the Family," which was a liberal satire of a bigoted father named Archie Bunker and his dimwitted wife.
In a familiar liberal style, PAW pretends to represent the "American Way"[3] when in fact it spends its tax-deductible dollars in attempting to smear conservatives.
PAW tried to destroy Robert Bork's reputation in the 1980s and did a similar hatchet job on Charles Pickering in the 2000s, helping derail both jurists' nominations.[4]
