Radio Free Europe was a broadcasting ~~organisation~~ founded in 1950 by the National Committee for a Free Europe and funded by the United States Congress. Based in [[Munich]], [[Germany]] it broadcast in local languages to the eastern European nations under Soviet occupation. In 1976 RFE merged with [[Radio Liberty]], a similar ~~organisation~~ which broadcast in local languages to the peoples of the [[Soviet Union]], to form [[Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty]].
