When George Washington chose not to run for President again in the election of 1796, the office was open for other politicians. Vice President John Adams of the Federalist party decided to run. Thomas Jefferson also ran on the Democratic-Republican party ticket. Many other candidates such as Aaron Burr, Samuel Adams, Oliver Ellsworth and George Clinton. Despite the fact that George Washington didn't run several people voted for him.[1] The results were:
