Maoris, the natives of New Zealand. They descended from an early Polynesian race. They are distinguished for their bravery particulary during the New Zealand wars verses the British settlers. Early Maori society was well structured and was governed by chiefs much like a feudal civilization. Maori speak a rich sonorous language which is one of the three national languages of New Zealand. They are the most vigorous and energetic of all the South Sea islanders.[1]. The majority of the Maori follow Christianity.
