Biblical prophecy is a general term for the prophetic statements of the Men of God in the Bible. These prophets spoke to the children of Israel, usually concerning some sinful or false way they had fallen into.

Seventeen of the books of the Old Testament are the writings of prophets, from Isaiah to Malachi. Other important biblical prophets are Elijah (considered the greatest of all) and his successor Elishah.

Many of the prophecies in the Old Testament are fulfilled in the New Testament, through the deeds of Jesus. However, it is unclear whether others have yet been fulfilled, especially since the language is often very metaphorical and allusive. Much biblical scholarship is devoted to determining the exact meanings of such prophecies, and even trying to use them to predict future world events, particularly apocalyptic happenings.
