Thomas Cranmer (1489 - 1556) was the Archbishop of Canterbury (starting in 1533) and he oversaw the creation of the Anglican Church's Book of Common Prayer. He was charged with treason and sedition when Jane Grey, whose appointment he literally signed off on, as successor to the thrown failed and was executed (burnt to death) in 1556.
